Our Day In Court
My son, his mom and I recently attended his court date. Just to keep you all up on things, my son smashed a car window of an individual who jumped him, instead of smashing the individual. The whole incident happened in a five minute time span.
My son was charged with criminal mischief for smashing the inanimate object. Specifically, the rear passenger side window of an old beat up Tercel.
Well, we were ordered to pay restitution of $172 for the window and $50 court fees. I informed the judge of the fact that the window was never replaced and the car was sold for $300 (with no window) a few weeks after the incident. The person lives a block away, I passed the car every day. Also, the kid that jumped my son is a friend of my stepdaughters boyfriend and verified the sale of the car and laughed at the fact that he is still getting paid for the window.
None of that matters to the judge. We were still ordered to pay the $172.00. We could contest that and go to court several more times to rectify but, I really do not think the judge appreciates my disrespect for this whole piece of crap system. Well fact is, I am not going to pay it. So be it.
